Why is SEO so Important?
Search Engine Optimization can be extremely powerful. Millions of people use search engines each day to find what they’re looking for. Using the same keyword from the previous post as an example, we see that the keyword “golf clubs” gets searched for approximately 3,700 times each day on Google alone! (110,000 monthly searches according to Google Keyword Planner.)
Studies estimate that the #1 ranked organic search result gets about 20% of the clicks. Using that figure, we can estimate that the #1 ranked website in our example (golfsmith.com) receives about 740 visitors per day from Google for this one keyword alone!
Chances are if you’re ranking well for one keyword, you’ll be ranking well for other keywords and in other search engines too. No matter what sort of website you have, you want people to be able to find you. That’s why you build a website in the first place right? The truth is that building a website is the easy part. There are 1 Million new websites created on the internet each and every day. The challenging part is getting the traffic, getting people to find your website. This is where SEO comes in. If you sell golf equipment and people are searching for golf clubs, you want those people to find your website.
Search engines are the number one providers of web traffic, but are not the only way to get visitors to your website. There’s also YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, email, and plenty of other ways to get traffic – but I hope you see how powerful search engine traffic can be, and how SEO can be a powerful component of your traffic generation strategy.
